Ted Talk Translator

For those who may not know, Ted talks are awesome conferences made by awesome people. Scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, businessmen, all sorts of people talking about their passion.

A few weeks ago I translated a Ted talk in french for my mother, because I thought it was a really important topic and I wanted to share this point of view. After that I thought it was really a shame that I could not share it with the rest of the world, so I emailed Ted organizers. I discovered that they were in the process of translating all the Ted Talks, and that anyone who was willing to, could translate Ted Talks.

So here are my first two official translations, and I invite anyone who would like to participate to email subtitles@ted.com

Enjoy ! The first one by Rives is really a mustsee !

Susan Boyle, an Unlikely Singer, Is a YouTube Sensation - NYTimes.com

Susan Boyle, an Unlikely Singer, Is a YouTube Sensation - NYTimes.com:

"Susan Boyle, the middle-aged church volunteer whose soaring performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” on a British talent show last week turned her into the world’s newest instant celebrity, at youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY, is trying to catch her breath."
Here are the lyrics (she begins with the second stanza).

I dreamed a dream (Les Miserables)

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.
